Viking Message 6/07/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 6/08 to 6/012. This message is also posted on the school website.

WO District parents, this is the final message for the 2026 school year. Just a few reminders and bits of information to close out the year. Remediation for students retaking the English 2 EOC begins on Monday and retakes on Tuesday. Students need to arrive by 7:45 AM each day. Students should arrive on time, check in at the front office and report to the media center.

Students that are clearing excessive absences can makeup time between 8:30-4 Monday thru Friday next week. They should check into the front office, bring water and lunch for the day. Any student that does not clear their excessive absences from the Fall 2025 semester or this Spring 2026 semester will receive a 59 for their final semester grade. To clear the final grade and receive the credit, the students will have the option of attending summer credit recovery.

Summer Credit Recovery is scheduled to begin June 15^th to July 2^nd. Forms need to be returned as soon as possible. If you have questions regarding Credit Recovery, please contact Ms. Julie Church.

Parents, parent and student portals will be available with Individual Student Reports with EOC results as of Thursday, 6/11. However, final grades will not be visible in the Parent or Student Infinite Campus portals until all state testing processes are completed at the school level. This temporary delay helps ensure accuracy and consistency as schools finalize testing, grading, and verification procedures. Report cards for 9-11^th grade will be available for pickup beginning June 22.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. In just a few more days, we will be celebrating the successful completion of your K-12 journey. Just a couple of reminders:

· REQUIRED Graduation rehearsal is scheduled for Friday, 6/12 at 9 AM. All fees and/or devices or materials should be cleared up and returned prior to rehearsal. If you have anything that must be cleared, please come early to not delay the start of practice.

· Dress cool and comfortable and bring plenty of water and a hat, part of practice will be outside. DO NOT BRING YOUR Graduation Cap, Gown or Tassel.

· Graduation tickets will be distributed at the end of the rehearsal. If a student leaves early, arrangements must be made to come back after rehearsal to pick up tickets. Additional tickets beyond the allocated 10 will not be saved.

Viking Message 5/31/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 6/01 to 6/05. This message is also posted on the school website.

We have one more night of celebration for our students on a great year of achievement. Our Band Recognition Program is scheduled for Monday, June 1^st at 6PM.

Parents, as we approach the end of the school year, we want to share an important update regarding final grades in Infinite Campus. Final grades will not be visible in the Parent or Student Infinite Campus portals until all state testing processes are completed at the school level. This temporary delay helps ensure accuracy and consistency as schools finalize testing, grading, and verification procedures.

Report cards for 9-11^th grade will be available for pickup beginning June 22.

EOC and CTE state exams begin Monday June 1^st to Friday June 5^th these days are ½ days. Students need to arrive at school on time, especially for the EOC and CTE state exams. Math 1, Math 3 and Biology remediation and retests will begin based on the return of scores. Contacts will be made to schedule the remediation groups and retests time. Attendance will be taken and counted for those students that need to participate.

Students that missed any teacher-made exams due to illness or other justifiable reason need to contact their teacher and arrange an opportunity for makeup by June 4. Any student that has completed their testing should turn in their device immediately.

Students, we are at the end of the semester. If you have more than 10 unexcused absences, you run the risk of not receiving credit for a course. Notes should be turned into the front office. This week makeup time is Monday through Friday 12 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 3. Students must email their counselor to indicate their participation. Students that did not makeup their time from the Fall or meet the requirements of their attendance contract from the Fall will receive a 59 on their transcript for those courses at the end of this semester.

Summer Credit Recovery is scheduled to begin June 15^th to July 2^nd. Forms need to be returned as soon as possible. If you have questions regarding Credit Recovery, please contact Ms. Julie Church.

Please make arrangements to pick up your child's medication from the front office on or before the last day of school which is Friday, June 5th. Medications left at school after this date may be discarded.

Senior Parents, a couple of reminders regarding graduation: Graduation rehearsal is June 12; 9-12; please review the letter distributed on 5/27 that describes prohibited items that are not allowed at graduation, specifically horns, poppers or other loud noise devices. If you would like a copy of this letter, email Ms. Cassidy. Fees must be paid prior to rehearsal and items, specifically laptops and chargers need to be turned in prior to rehearsal.

Viking Message 5/24/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 5/25 to 5/29. This message is also posted on the school website.

Parents can mark their calendar for May 27^th at 6:00 for the Academic Award Ceremony. Invitations for students getting an award will be going home on Tuesday 5/19. Our Athletic Recognition Program is scheduled for May 29^th and our Band Recognition Program is scheduled for June 1^st.

Viking Message 5/17/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 5/18 to 5/22. This message is also posted on the school website.

A big shoutout is extended to both our boys and girls track and field athletes that competed at the 6A State Track and Field Meet in Greensboro on Saturday. Congratulations is extended to Romeloh Myers who brings home the State Championship in the High Jump with a measurement of 6’6. Edrick Pineda placed 9^th overall in the Long Jump. The Boys 4x8 relay consisting of Devin Streeter, Jake Hallet, Francisco Herrera and Matthew Earle placed 8^th overall and Keyon’Dre Wright placed 7^th in the 100 M dash. For our Girls Team, Ava Spreder broke the school record in the 400m running a 58.13, she placed 7^th overall. Elena McCormick got 5th in Pole Vault clearing 9ft. Issy Maxwell ran a 12:20 in the 3200M run and the 4x2 Relay team consisting of Kaiya Maison, Ava Spreder, Ke’ Andria Wright, and Joneisha Eberhardt, ran a PR of 1:45.89 which was 3 seconds faster than they previously ran. Way to go Ladies!

Our Varsity Girls Soccer Team competes against JH Rose Monday at 6. Wish them luck as they move forward in the 3^rd round of the playoffs this week. This is the first time since Spring of 2019, they have move to this level in the playoffs.

We complete our concert season this week with the combined HCM and WOHS Orchestra Concerts on 5/19 and the HCMS band concert on 5/21, both concerts begin at 6 PM. Please come out to support our performing arts.

Senior Week begins this week. Tickets for the Senior Breakfast, Senior Walk and Senior Picnic for eligible participants will be distributed beginning Monday. Eligibility is based on passing final averages in all classes, including good progress in credit recovery courses needed for graduation, good attendance and behavior. Senior week activities begin Tuesday, 5/19 with the Senior Breakfast; Wednesday, 5/20- Senior Walk through WO and to the feeder schools; on Thursday, 5/21 Senior Picnic during 3^rd period. Yearbooks for seniors will be distributed during this time. On Friday, 5/22 Senior Sunset and movie. Eligibility tickets are not required for this event.

Parents, we are asking for donations of individual bags of chips, cookies, cupcakes canned drinks, bottled water, hot dogs and hamburger buns, and gift cards for prizes to assist with our senior cook out. If you are willing to donate, please reach out to Ms. Riley Barber or the front office. Any donation will be appreciated.

In addition, parents, ask your senior about the letter that was given out weeks ago that provided important information and due dates leading up to the commencement rehearsal and ceremony including tickets. Viking Message 5/10/26

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 5/11 to 5/15. This message is also posted on the school website.

AP testing for students continues this week. Please review the schedule located outside the media center. Students that are scheduled to take their assessment during the morning sessions need to report to the media center by 7:30 with their device and charger. Those students that test during the afternoon sessions need to attend 1^st lunch and report to the media center by 11:30 with their device and charger. Each testing session could last up to 3 hours, therefore, if you are scheduled to take your AP assessment in the afternoon, you will need to arrange for transportation home.

A big shoutout is extended to our final Jazz band and the final MPA competition last week. Band A received a Superior rating and Band B received an Excellent rating. And if you join us this Tuesday, you will get to hear those smooth Jazz sounds as they perform their yearend concert starting at 7 PM, followed a performance of the Concert Band on 5/13, the combined HCM and WOH Orchestra Concerts on 5/19 and the season will end with the HCM band concert on 5/21. Please come out to support our performing arts.

White Oak Spring Track represented well yesterday at the Regional Track Meet that took place at SBHS. The following members of our Boys team will represent the Vikings next Saturday at NC A&T in the 6A State Championship Meet: The 4X8 Relay consisting of Devin Streeter, Jake Hallet, Franciso Herrera and Matthew Earle; the 4x1 Relay consisting of Michael Milligan, Chris Smith, Edrick Pineda, and Keyon’Dre Wright. Keyon’Dre will also be competing in the 100 m Dash. Edrick Pineda will compete in the Long Jump, Romeloh Myers will compete in the High Jump and Denzel Jackson will compete in the Triple and the High Jump.

The following members of the Girls team will also be attending the State Meet and competing in the following events. Issy Maxwell in the 1600 and 3200 M run. The 4x2 Relay consisting of Ava Spreder, Kaiya Maison, Joneisha Eberhardt and Ke’Andria Wright; the 4x4 Relay consisting of Ava Spreder, Joneisha Eberhardt, Ke’Andria Wright and Paityn Revoir; the 4x8 Relay consisting of Paityn Revoir, Jacky Esquivel, Issy Maxwell, and Elena McCormick. Kaiya Maison will also compete in the Triple Jump.

Senior Week is scheduled for May 18 to May 22. Details regarding activities have been shared including permission forms for the Senior Walk. Activities are as follows: Tuesday 5/19- Senior Breakfast; Wednesday 5/20- Senior Walk to feeder schools; 5/21 Senior Picnic; 5/22 Senior Sunset and movie. Permission forms for the Senior Walk are due by 5/15 and first come first serve. Seniors must be passing ALL classes and credit recovery, have good attendance and no ISS or OSS as of 5/15 to participate.

Viking Message 5/03/26

AP testing for students that took AP classes in both the Fall and Spring Semester begin Tuesday, 5/5. Viking Message 4/19/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 4/20 to 4/24. This message is also posted on the school website.

Shout out to the cast and crew and directors of our musical “Once Upon a Mattress”. They had 3 wonderful performances this week and I am so very proud of each person and all the hard work that it took to make each performance a successful production.

The final day for this grading period is 4/24 and reports cards will be distributed on May 1^st.

Nominations for Prom King and Queen have been selected for our final 2 names for each category. Final voting will take place on Wednesday, and the King and Queen will be announced and crowned at the prom.

The Red-Carpet walk will begin promptly at 5 PM. Seniors need to be lined up under the pavilion to complete the name card. Gates will open at 3:30.

Please remember, any student, either junior or senior host or guest of a junior or senior that receives OSS will lose their eligibility to attend the prom regardless of having purchased their prom ticket. Please remember that behavior counts.

This is a reminder that the ASVAB is scheduled for 4/22 for those students that have already registered to take the assessment. Please report to the media center by 7:15 with your laptop and charger.

We have a multiple honor induction ceremony program taking place on Wednesday, 4/22. Our Marshals, National Technical Honor Society, National Honor Society and Math Honor Society will induct their newest members into their very prestigious groups all in one event.

Senior Week is scheduled for May 18 to May 22. Details regarding activities will be shared in the coming weeks. It is important for seniors to know at this time that in order to participate in senior week activities, grades, attendance and behavior will be a factor.

Viking Message 4/12/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

The final ERPD for the semester is 4/15 and the last day of the grading period is 4/24. Reports cards will be distributed on May 1^st.

This week is musical week!! If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet for the WOHS Spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress, the last day to do so online is Wednesday, 4/15. Just visit wohsarts.ludus.com to reserve your seat. The musical will debut beginning April 16–18, starting at 7:00 PM in the Earl Taylor Performing Arts Center (ETPAC). Thursday night is WOHS student night with a special rate of $5 for students.

There are 3 remaining dates to purchase prom tickets. April 14^th 5:30 to 7:30; April 17^th 5:30 to 8 and April 18^th 1:00-5. The sale dates are posted on the website and the WO Facebook page. Tickets can be purchased at The Bobcat located at 1103 Wolf Swamp Rd. Also, Seniors, it’s time to for you to nominate your choice for prom king and queen. Check your email for a link to cast your vote. The link will be open until Friday 4/17.

And speaking of getting closer to the prom. It is in two more weeks. Ladies, we are excited to share that we have a collection of gently used, donated prom dresses available in sizes 2 through 2X, with a variety of styles and colors.

A PowerPoint with photos and sizes of each dress will be posted in junior and senior's homeroom Team's platforms no later than Wednesday April 15th. If you see a dress you’re interested in, please email Mrs. Koufie with the dress number and your best time to try it on and pick it up. If you are not able to access the power point, email one of the counselors, and we will assist you. This is a quick turnaround, so please respond as soon as possible if you’re interested. Don’t miss this opportunity!

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

Monday, 4/6 is aTWD. Students return to school on Tue 4/7. The final ERPD for the semester is 4/15 and the last day of the grading period is 4/24 and reports cards will be distributed on May 1^st.

Makeup pictures for Cap and Gowns are scheduled for Monday 4/6 in the ETPAC. Students were able to sign-up for a sitting time. If you have not, you may be able to get a walk-in appointment, but you must come in before 12:00 noon. Please make sure you report to the back end of the school for WOHS Cap and Gown makeup pictures. Another school will be conducting makeup pictures in the CA at the same time.

Prom tickets for the 2026 WOHS Junior-Senior Prom go on sale beginning April 4. The sale dates are posted on the website and the WO Facebook page. Juniors and Seniors, check your email for a link to provide contact information to the prom coordinator to share updates. Varsity Baseball will be competing in the Touchstone Tournament beginning Monday, 3/30 at 7 PM at RHS. The next game will be dependent on the results of Monday. Our softball travels to DH Conley on Saturday 4/4 to compete in the Easter Tournament at DH Conley. They play at 1:00 and again 5:00. Please come out to support our Viking Baseball and Softball.

Viking Message 3/22/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

Progress reports for the 5^th grading period will be distributed on March 26^th. Spring Break begins March 30^th to April 3^rd, and we have a TWD on Monday 4/6. Students return to school on Tuesday, 4/7.

We are finishing the WorkKeys Assessment this week. Seniors that need to makeup a missed test, must be at school by 7:10.

Congratulations to our winners from last night’s Reverse Raffle. We appreciate all the purchased tickets, donated items, as well as worked and attended the event. It takes support and partnerships to build a strong community for all of our schools. Thank to for all that everyone does for WOHS and the class of 2026.

Jostens will be at WO tomorrow to pass out cap and gown orders and other graduation materials. All orders must be paid in full. Following the return from Spring Break, we have just over 8 weeks of school left. If you have not placed your order for your cap/gown/diploma and diploma cover, please do so as soon as possible. If you are using the cap and gown of a sibling, you will still need to place an order for the 2026 tassel, diploma and diploma cover. Please see your counselor or Admin if you have questions.

Spring Sports Pictures are scheduled for March 26, a schedule will be provided by the coaches for softball, JV and Varsity baseball, girls soccer, lacrosse, girls and boys track and field, tennis and golf.

Viking Message 3/15/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 3/16/26 to 3/20/26. This message is also posted on the school website.

Our next ERPD date is March 18^th. Students will be released at 11:10. Progress reports for the 5^th grading period will be distributed on March 26^th. Spring Break begins March 30^th to April 3^rd, and we have a TWD on Monday 4/6. Students return to school on Tuesday, 4/7.

The WorkKeys Assessment for selected seniors is scheduled for March 19^th and 20^th. WorkKeys is a state required assessment to determine how prepared students are for meeting the requirements of career readiness.

If you have not placed your order for your cap/gown/diploma and diploma cover, please do so as soon as possible. It’s not too late to order your yearbook. You can go to yearbookforever.com to order your book. Parents, it is also not too late to order your Senior tribute. Senior Ads are still available to order until March 20. Please check out the school website for more information.

Prom tickets for the 2026 WOHS Junior-Senior Prom go on sale beginning April 4. The sale dates are posted on the website and the WO Facebook page. Permission forms for outside guests are available in the front office. Permission forms must be approved by Ms. Cassidy prior to purchasing the prom ticket.

Our students have been working incredibly hard to bring this lively and entertaining production to life, and we would love you to join us for an evening of outstanding, family-friendly theatre while supporting arts education at White Oak.

Viking Message 3/08/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 3/09/26 to 3/13/26. This message is also posted on the school website.

Report for the 4^th grading period will be distributed on Thursday, March 12. The next ERPD date is March 18^th and progress reports for the 5^th grading period will be distributed on March 26^th. Spring Break begins March 30^th to April 3^rd.

The WorkKeys Assessment for selected seniors is scheduled for March 19^th and 20^th . Those students that are eligible to take the test will be given information about the test next week. The WorkKeys is a state required assessment to determine how prepared students are for meeting the requirements of career readiness.

We have just a few days until the Reverse Raffle. We still have tickets to sell. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please reach out to the school. If you have unsold tickets or money, please turn them in this week. We are in the final stages of preparation and it is important to have all tickets and money turned in. The RR is scheduled for March 21; 6:00 PM at the Infant of Prague. Please help us provide a safe and fun activity for our students. We have a winner for our $600 prom basket. The winner is Ms. Beverly Ledwon. Thank you-s are extended to everyone that purchased a Prom raffle ticket. We will continue with the other raffle for an additional 5 tickets for the 2026 WOHS graduation. The winning ticket for this raffle will be drawn on June 1. The cost of each ticket is $5 or 3 tickets for $10.

Viking Message 3/01/26

Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of 3/02/26 to 3/06/26. This message is also posted on the school website.

The ACT is scheduled to be given to 11^th graders tomorrow, Monday, March 2^nd. It is important that students are at school on time to begin the assessment. To prepare for the ACT, students can go online to collegeboard.org to find resources to help prepare for the assessment. A review-study program has been created for students to help them prepare for the ACT. We encourage all 11^th graders to take advantage of the study program. It is self-paced and can be practiced online at any time.

During ACT testing, all other students will report to their homeroom classes during testing. Counselors will meet with current 9^th and 10^th grade students in alphabetical groups to discuss registration for the 26-27 school year. Please return registration forms as soon as possible. Counselors will meet with current 11^th graders individually following 9^th and 10^th grade registration. Dates will be announced when finalized.

Parents and students, due to technical issues and delays with downloading security programs on the new laptops, the deployment of the new laptop will take place at the beginning of the 26-27 school year.

We have WO Spirit night at DairiO’s on March 2^nd from 5-8. Part of the proceeds from the sales will go to the WO Athletic Boosters.

On Friday, 3/6, please join us for the dedication of Arte, the Artemis 1 Moon Tree #57. As part of the dedication, we will be honoring 2 remarkable women; NASA Astronaut Christina Koch, former WO Alum and Mrs. Tanya Larose beloved WO science teacher. The dedication will take place at 2:30 in the front lawn of the school.
