Viking Message 5/18/25
Good Evening Parents, students and staff,
This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of May 19 to May 23. This message is also posted on the school website.
Parents and students, Teacher-made finals begin May 27 to June 2 and EOC and CTE state exams begin June 3rd to June 6th . EOC week are ½ days. Students that do not have state assessments will be assigned to alternate classes on those days. Students need to make every effort to arrive at school on time. Once the state assessment has begun students will not be allowed to enter the testing site and will have to attend makeups that begins each day at 1:00.
This is a reminder that any student with more than 10 unexcused absences are in danger of not receiving credit for their courses. Attendance waivers are now available in the front office or guidance. It is important that the required medical documentation is signed by a medical physician and is included with the waiver.
Seniors can pick up their caps and gowns in the front office. If your senior has not yet ordered their cap and gown, diploma and diploma cover, they need to do so as soon as possible through Josten’s. If you need assistance, please reach out to me or a counselor.
Due to the response and number of forms turned in, the PG committee is attempting to acquire a 4th bus. With that in mind, if there are additional students that still would like to attend but have not turned in their form, we will take up to 30 more participants. The forms will be accepted first come first serve. Confirmation of the additional bus will be contingent on the additional seats.
Students and parents, the window for Credit Recovery begins 6/16, Mon thru Thur; 9-1. Any student interested in attending Credit Recovery should speak to and sign up through their Counselor. We are also offering a chance to retake EOC’s for Math 1, Math 3 and Eng 2 for any student that did not pass their EOC this past Fall 2024 semester. See your math teacher, English teacher or Mr. Reed for more details and how to sign up.
Senior Week is scheduled for May 19 to May 23. Check out the FB page and school website for detailed information regarding theme days and activities. Any student wanting to participate in the Senior March to the feeder school, must return the permission forms by May 16. Students must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally to participate in any senior week activity.
Parents, we are also asking for donations to help with senior week. If you are able and willing to donate food items such as individual packaged chips and snacks, canned sodas, bottled water, paper plates, napkins, or condiments such as ketchup and mustard, we would really appreciate it. The items can be turned in at the front office.

Congratulations to our Mens and Womens track and field teams and to Michael Brant and their performances at the Conference competitions for their sports events. We do not have the final list for track and field, but we do have several students moving forward to the Regionals Competition scheduled for Sat, May 10 and on May 5, Michael Brant moves to the 3A Regional Golf Tournament in Wilson. We wish all great luck.
Report cards will be distributed tomorrow, May 5th. Students need to report to HR to pick up their report cards. We have started the final grading period and certain end of year assessments will begin very soon. NCVPS exams begin May 8 and AP testing continues May 15. Marching Band Rehearsal is scheduled for the following dates: 5/5 and 5/19 from 5-7 PM on the band field.
The last day to turn in Project Graduation waiver and permission forms is Friday, May 9. Buses will be ordered based on the count of the returned forms. Once seats are filled, late forms will not be accepted.
Cheer tryouts for the 25-26 school year begin May 12 to May 15 from 3-5 in the CA. Physical forms must be turned in before the student is eligible to tryout.

The Drive is scheduled from 7:30 to 1:00 in the CA.

A sincere thank you is extended to Ms. Lisa Booher and her team that put together another wonderful prom for 2025. We appreciate all you do to make this such a memorable occasion.
Tomorrow 4/28 marks the last day of the current grading period. Report cards will be distributed on May 5th. The final grading period begins 4/29. Our Spring Choral concert is scheduled for Thursday, 5/01, at 7 PM in the ETPAC. Please come out to support our final choral concert as we also recognize our seniors.
The WOHS Auto Club will have its 5th annual Auto Show on Saturday, May 3. The gates open at 9 AM and the awards will be distributed at 3 PM. In addition, there will be an Auto Club meeting after school every day this week in room 128.

Shout out to the WOHS SCA for all their hard work to ensure the success of the 2nd annual Easter @ the Oak this past Saturday. Job well done!
Tomorrow, April 14 to April 18 is Spring Break, Monday 4/21 is a TWD and students return to school on 4/22. The end of the grading period is 4/28.
Cap and Gown makeups are scheduled for Monday, 4/21 in the ETPAC.
Josten’s will deliver Graduation materials on Wednesday, 4/23.
Letters with details and information regarding the graduation for the class of 2025 was distributed to students last week. Parents, if you would like a copy of this letter, please email and I will send it to you.

Saturday, 4/19 is the final date to purchase tickets for the 2025 WOHS Junior/Senior Prom. Tickets can be purchased at the Pumpkin Center VFD for $60 per person. The prom is scheduled for April 26th at the Rustic Barn. Seniors participating in the Red-Carpet walk should arrive early. The Red-Carpet Walk will begin at 5:30. Students that receive OSS within 30 days of the prom will not be allowed to attend and forfeit the return of their ticket if already purchased.
WOHS in partnership with OC Emergency services will present a DWI Presentation for our Junior and Seniors. This presentation will increase awareness of the dangers of driving while impaired. We aim to educate our students about the severe consequences of driving under the influence, particularly during celebratory events such as prom or after-prom parties.
This is a reminder that the ASVAB assessment will be given 4/22 in the media center for those students that registered. Students need to report at 7:30 with their device.
WOHS Varsity Baseball will participate in the Touchstone Tournament at RHS. The first game is scheduled for 1:00.

4/09 is the final ERPD for the year. Spring Break begins 4/14 to 4/18 and Monday 4/21 is a teacher’s workday. Students return to school on Tuesday, 4/22 and the grading period ends 4/28. Students and parents, we are on the countdown. As of tomorrow, we have 38 more days until the end of the school year, June 6. Teacher made exams begin 5/27, and state EOC’s begin 6/2. Students, please make sure you are communicating with your teachers about your progress and attendance.
Shoutout to the cast, crew and directors of the WOHS musical. Their performances this past weekend was absolutely wonderful with their final night ending with a standing ovation. I applaud of you all.
The WOHS Athletic Boosters have a Booster Club meeting at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria, Monday, 4/7. In addition, the Golden Oar Scholarship, which is sponsored by the booster club, is available for any senior student athlete. Forms are on the school website or in the front office.

We aim to educate and raise awareness among our students about the severe consequences of driving under the influence, particularly during celebratory events such as prom or after-prom parties. The presentation will take place in the stadium beginning at 12:00.
The next sale dates for Prom tickets are Tuesday, 4/8, Friday, 4/11, Saturday, 4/12 and the final date of Saturday, 4/19. Prom tickets can be purchased at the Pumpkin Center VFD for $60 per person. Shoutout to members of our Women’s Track Team at the Cape Fear Invitational at UNCW this weekend. Amiya Williams won 1st in the 300 hurdles and has set a new school record with a time of 47.35 sec and Nyla Bell placed 2nd in the hurdles. Ava Spreader won 1st in the Open 200 meters; Hayleigh Fonville placed 2nd in Long jump and 1st placed was achieved in 4x1; 4x2 and 4x4 relays.
It’s almost time for the curtain to rise for the WOHS debut of the musical, Oklahoma. Tickets can be purchased online at www.wohsarts.ludus.com . Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Ticket prices at the door are slightly higher than online purchases. Online sales close each show day at noon. Please come out to support our students.

Shoutout to the WOHS Oakestra and their performance at the NCMEA Eastern Region MPA. The Oakestra earned straight superior ratings for their stage performance and the site reading category.

Permission forms will be distributed the beginning of April and are due back by April 11. Viking Message 3/16/25
Good Evening Parents, students and staff,
This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of March 17 to March 21. This message is also posted on the school website.
Monday, 3/17 is a teacher’s workday.
11th grade parents and students ACT testing will resume on Wednesday, 3/19 instead of Tuesday, 3/18. We apologize for the change in information, but OCS wants to ensure that the internet issues are resolved before testing resumes. Students should be able to resume where they paused in the assessment with all their responses saved. Those students that were absent last Tuesday, 3/11 will start at the beginning and can take the full assessment. All decisions being made due to the unforeseen issue are in essence what will allow our students to have a fair and equitable opportunity for an ACT online administration.
Shoutout to the WOHS symphonic band and wind ensemble for their performance at the region MPA. The symphonic band earned straight superior ratings in each category, an accomplishment that that has not been earned in the last 6-7 years. Our wind ensemble earned an overall superior rating as well. Great accomplishment band students and band directors.
Yearbook will sponsor a yearbook spirit week next week. Show your school spirit by participating in each theme day. Tuesday: Leprechaun Day (Green & Gold/St. Patty's accessories); Wednesday: Wig Day; Thursday: Dress like your Class (Freshman: Babies, Sophomores: Toddlers, Juniors: Teens, Seniors: Old Folks); Friday: Dress like a Celeb. Glitz and bling like a celebrity.

Viking Message 3/09/25
Good Evening Parents, students and staff,

Shoutout to the WOHS choral groups and their performance at the region MPA. They earned an overall Excellent rating in performance and site reading. Job well done students and Mr. Gomez.
ACT testing for Juniors is scheduled for March 11. This is a state mandated and important assessment for all Juniors. Accounts have been setup to allow up to 4 colleges or universities to receive student scores. A letter with information regarding the ACT was distributed to students last week.
Parents and students, the rescheduled AP and 8th Grade parent night will take place 3/12. The AP Class information and recruitment will take place from 5 to 6 PM in the CA and the 8th Grade Parent Night will follow at 6 to 7 PM. Please come out to hear about the advantages and benefits of taking AP classes and what WOHS has to offer.
Registration continues for juniors and 9th grade registration will begin March 24th.
Parents, this is a reminder of the vaccine clinic for all interested 11th graders that need the required Meningitis (MCV4) booster vaccination that is due within the first 30 days of the 2025-2026 school year. Consent forms are in the front office or with the school nurse and must be returned by 3/12. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.

Viking Message 3/02/25
Good Evening Parents, students and staff,
This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of March 3 to March 7. This message is also posted on the school website.
The next ERPD is 3/12, Report Cards will be distributed on 3/13 and 3/17 is the next TWD.
ACT testing for Juniors is scheduled for March 11. This is a state mandated and important assessment for all Juniors. Students will be setting up their ACT accounts with their teachers and will be able to select up to 4 colleges or universities to receive their scores. A letter with information regarding the ACT will be distributed to students on Thursday.
Attention Seniors, State Employees Credit Union is offering numerous scholarships to Onslow County School students. While amounts vary, recipients receive a generous financial gift towards a 4-year education at one of the 16 UNC system universities. There are several eligibility requirements and students must be eligible for credit union membership through an eligible family member or parent. Please see your counselor immediately to be considered.
Parents and students, WOHS has set 3/12 as the rescheduled date for the AP Information and 8th Grade parent night. The Advanced Placement class information and recruitment will take place from 5 to 6 PM in the CA and the 8th Grade Parent Night will follow at 6 to 7 PM. Please come out to hear about the advantages and benefits of taking AP classes and what WOHS has to offer. This will be a benefit for preparing for the 25-26 school year.
Registration for the 2025-26 school year has begun. Our counselors met with current 10th graders last week. The counselors will meet with current 9th graders the week of 3/24 to 3/28. Individual conferences with current 11th grade will take place throughout the month of March.
Parents, WOHS will be hosting a vaccine clinic in coordination with the Onslow County Health Dept. for all interested 11th graders. This clinic will assist with the required Meningitis (MCV4) booster vaccination that is due within the first 30 days of the 2025-2026 school year. The clinic will take place in April. Consent forms are in the front office or with the school nurse. Forms should be completed and returned to the Nurse's Office by March 12th. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.
Online tickets are available for the WOHS production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma. Get your tickets at www.wohsarts.ludus.com . You can receive early bird savings and choose your seat if you order your tickets now. Choose your seat before the best seats are gone.
Tickets for the 2025, WOHS Prom, “A Night In Vegas” will be available for purchase beginning 3/22. The prom is scheduled for April 26th at the Rustic Barn. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at the Pumpkin Center VFD, 3285 New Bern Hwy. Checkout the website and flyer for times and additional dates. Permission forms for outside guests to the prom will be available 3/3. Forms must be submitted to Ms. Cassidy for approval before tickets can be purchased.
Continuing with prom information, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is hosting a Prom Extravaganza for both young men and women. Our Basketball team travels to Person HS in Roxboro NC to compete in the 3rd round of playoffs on Tuesday.

bsences, or they risk not receiving credit for a course despite their overall final average. Students that may be dealing with excessive unexcused absences can apply for an attendance waiver. Waivers for excessive unexcused absences are available in student services. A committee will review the appeal and documentation to determine the outcome of the waiver. All waivers and documentation must be turned in by 1/13/25.
Results for the ASVAB test are in. Students should report to the media center with a pass during HR to see Ms. Dennis to get their scores.
Cap and Gown Retakes are scheduled for January 22. This is a TWD. If you are a mid-year grad, 3-year or junior grad or you did not get to take your Cap and Gown picture during the summer this will be your last opportunity to have your Cap and Gown portraits taken as a graduate.
Yearbooks are still available for pre-order. Order your yearbook now before the price goes up in January. Don’t forget that you can also be a Yearbook Angel by donating a partial or full yearbook to a student that is not able to purchase one of their own.
