Viking Message (Sunday Calls)
Viking Message 1/11/26
Good Evening Parents, students and staff,
This is Joycelyn Cassidy, principal of WOHS with your Viking Message for the week of
January 12 to January 16, 2026. The message is also posted on the school website.
Parents and students, tomorrow begins our state EOC and CTE exam week. If students are car riders, it is important that they arrive to school on time. Any student that is not taking an EOC or CTE will have an assigned location and will remain there until testing is over. We would like all students to be in their designated classroom by 7:05. Teachers will begin taking attendance by 7:15. Attendance will be taken through Homerooms, but some classes will be located in alternate areas. Once EOC/CTE testing has begun, information regarding makeups for Teacher-made exams will be shared via email for those students that may have been absent last week. Makeup for teacher made exams will take place in room 203. Students will be released when testing for the school is over which may vary from day to day, but is usually between between 11:30 to 12:00. Lunch will be grab and go. EOC Makeups (for those that missed the assessments due to absence) will take place in the afternoons. EOC Retests for Eng 2, Math 1, Math 3 and Bio will begin following the release of scores and remediation. Contact will be made to parents with dates and times. If you have not returned your retest letter it is not too late. Students that do not receive a level 3 do have an opportunity to retest and the highest score will be used for the final average in the course.
As a reminder, tomorrow is the last day to turn in an attendance waiver. Students should not exceed more than 10 unexcused absences or they run the risk of not receiving credit for their classes regardless of the grade earned. Absence notes should be turned in immediately following an absence and if the absences are an occurrence due to a chronic illness, there should be some type of medical documentation also turned in.
Students also have the opportunity to makeup time for attendance. Makeup time will only benefit academic credit; it will NOT impact athletic eligibility. If students are interested in makeup time, they need to meet with Ms. Cassidy or their counselor to make sure the qualify. Opportunities include Mon-Friday following release from school 12-3; Saturday, 1/17; 8-4; Tuesday and Wednesday, 1/20 and 1/21; 8-4. Please note, the Saturday, is subject to change based on participation.
Our Project Graduation meetings have resumed. We meet every Wednesday at 6:30 in the café. We still have tickets to sell for the Reverse Raffle. We are also selling raffle tickets for a prom basket that includes gift certificates from dress shops; hair salons; makeup salons and nail salons. It even includes certificates for tuxes and flowers. The estimated value of the Prom basket is $600. The raffle tickets for the basket can be purchased for $5 from any Project Graduation committee member or from the WOHS front office. The drawing for the basket is 3/6.
Cap and Gown Pictures for our 2026 graduates are scheduled to be taken on Tuesday, Jan 20, which is a TWD. A link for signing up for appointment times has been sent out to student emails. If your student did not receive it, please check with Ms. Cassidy or Ms. Mitchell. Walk-ins are permitted.
